Wow, just wow. It feels so good that I have finally said those words, or well, written those words. Same difference I guess haha. But, yeah, it is so hard to believe that I have now made a feature length film.
I started and finished writing script in two weeks in the first two weeks of January 2016. I figured what a perfect way to start the year. It was also even more perfect to realise that on April will mark my tenth anniversary as a filmmaker and I figured, it was the perfect way to celebrate myself as a filmmaker by making my first feature film.
We shot for 5 days from 4th – 8th April. Yep, that is how much time we spent filming the entire film. The reason it took us this much time as we have a script which is dialogue heavy and dialogue scenes take up less time and less preparation for a filmmaker.
The actor was Sam Vaughn who read script in a day and contacted me saying how much he loved it and wanted to be a part of the project.
It was a dream that was about to become a reality and right now it has become a reality.
Expect more updates in this week as we have lot of news and updates about the Isolated and other future projects.
I have decided to take part in NaNoWriMo of this year. Well in November which is just days away from now. The reason I wanted to take part in NaNoWriMo is that I have always had a passion for creative writing ever since I was seven years old.
I remember writing my first short story when I was seven and it was about a bear trying to kill people who lived in the woods. Safe to say that it was a combination of Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and The Three Bears, but I loved doing it.
I never fully stopped writing stories when I was growing up. I had close to no friends and a wild imagination, so I figured what the hell. I did try to publish a novel but it didn’t go as planned. So, I decided to take another shot. The reason why the first time it didn’t go well is because I felt that it wasn’t too imaginative enough. It was a comedy which was based around social reality and therefore people weren’t fans. So I decided to take it a big step.
Now, ever since I was a kid, I was a huge fan of Star Wars, and YES I AM FREAKING PUMPED FOR THE FORCE AWAKENS in December.
The reason I bring up Star Wars, because it was the first film I had ever watched where I had experienced escapism from the real world. I loved the film because it transported me into a different world and I never forget my first time watching this incredible film. So, I had decided to write stories which help escape the world around you and help you immerse within the world that is created whether it is on screen with films or with text with novels. So here comes the novel that I hope to start writing with NaNoWriMo 2015.
This is the official cover for my upcoming novel which I will start writing in November. It is called VOYAGE and I think you can tell that it is a space novel and a science fiction as well.
I grew up with science fiction (Star Wars, Back To The Future, Terminator 1 and 2, The Matrix, Inception etc). and this seems perfect for me to start crafting my skills as a writer. So, far, I can’t reveal too much yet, as I want to have many surprises for you. Well, if you read it. (I hope so).
I will give a very brief synopsis of the book.
SYNOPSIS – A group of astronauts travel to the cosmos to discover more beyond their reach.
That is all I will say for now, but please follow my blog and my journey and you will experience more on the way.
I am prepping up to make my feature film debut as a director and I always have to admire that how inspiration is key towards creativity in general especially in filmmaking. I have been making short films for almost ten years now and I have to admit that without being inspired by films and books, then I don’t think it would be anywhere near possible to be making films and videos. I can agree with that for sure.
I get inspired easily and it gets even more easier over the years as my projects tend to get bigger and bigger, which also means that I have to be inspired a lot. Luckily for me, that always happens when I watch a film or TV or even reading a novel which I have been doing a lot recently.
I will be talking more about my inspirations in depth in the upcoming blogs and discuss why being inspired helps you as a filmmaker and also why it is important.
The reason why being inspired is important is that you can keep on track while you are prepping for even making the film as well. It is vital that you are on the right track as you make the film you want.
For example, right now I am making a post apocalyptic drama as my feature film debut. Tat means that I will have to watch and read a lot of things that relate to the genre. It is a massive bonus for me because I am a huge fan of the genre and have been ever since I was a kid. I grew up with the first two (only good) Terminator films and they have the end of the world vibe involved for which I wanted to focus on in my film.
I also been reading a lot of novels that revolve around the end of the world or even what happens after. I read the novel Z For Zachariah for which I really liked. It was a novel that had a premise for which was interesting to read as it revolves around only two characters and their lives after the end of the world. I even read I AM LEGEND by Richard Matheson. We all know that it was later remade into a film by Will Smith back in 2007, but reading the novel had much more to it. It had the idea that what happens when you think you are all alone, when in reality you are not. These two novels have the similar themes that I wanted to focus on my feature film.
I want to focus on the isolation of a lonely character and the idea on how being alone can affect someone.
In the upcoming blogs, I will delve within the plot of the feature film, so keep on eye on that.
