Feature Filmmaking – Friday 8th April 2016

Why I am making my first feature in 2016?

I made an announcement just before the New Year that I was going to try and make my debut as a feature filmmaker. It actually was an ambitious idea in the first place. I mean being a guy who just graduated from university in July 2015 and thinking that making feature is an impossible task to commit to. Well, I am here to confirm that it isn’t impossible at all.

There is that saying that everything is possible, it’s just that the impossible takes time. I am a believer of that. I also want to prove it as well. I want to prove that I have the capability and passion to make a feature film. Why? Well, it is about how long that I have actually been doing filmmaking.2016 is a special year for me, especially the date April 16th. That date marks the tenth anniversary since I started picking up a camera and made short films. I was only thirteen years old and just fell in love with it enormously since.

2016 is a special year for me, especially the date April 16th. That date marks the tenth anniversary since I started picking up a camera and made short films. I was only thirteen years old and just fell in love with it enormously since then. So, I believe that it is the perfect opportunity to make my debut at feature filmmaking.

Over the years, I have been inspired a lot by many of my favourite filmmakers and even my friends as well. Filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan, Steven Speilberg, Quentin Tarantino, The Coen Brothers and many more. (That will be in another blog in depth about my inspirations for the feature).

The one example I can give from friend’s inspiring me are Elliot and Zander Weaver who are almost finished with their first feature film Cosmos. I have been fan of their work for many years, and couldn’t believe that I am now good friends with them because we all have one thing in common. And that is we are passion for filmmaking and we love films. We just hit it off when I interviewed them for my university essay and just remained friends since. They have been supporting me and I have been supporting them and it’s just things like that help keep me going.

Positive synergies is what keeps me going as people especially in this day and age of the internet, social media and YouTube trolls who just bash people instantly. It’s just a horrid way to keep people down and for no reason at all.

I have suffered from that over the years and it has gotten to me. But the lesson you have to learn is to not to let anyone get to you. They are only doing this because they know you can do it, they just find a way just to persuade not to do it, because of stupidity and jealousy.  But, I will speak about that in depth in the next blogs coming up.

Anyway, my feature is called ISOLATED and it is a drama and thriller. I will delve within the plot after we finish filming soon and I want to go in depth with my filmmaking journey and want to blog about what it has been like.

So, please wish me luck and support me as I am going to need it.

Thank you and expect more updates very soon.

My first ever director’s showreel. A montage of all of my work so far. 2016 will be big as it’ll mark 10 years since I started doing filmmaking. Here’s more to come in the near future grin emoticon

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Movie Review

Before I start this review, I just want to confirm that there will be no spoilers in review. If you end up enjoying this review, then please let me know in the comments section and I will do a spoiler heavy review in the next blog. But, if you have not seen this film yet, do not worry, because I am not a heartless douche and I will NOT spoil.

Now, where to begin? I have been a huge, huge HUGE Star Wars fan ever since I was four years old. I remember watching the Battle Of Hoth in Empire Strikes Back and thinking this was cinema epicness. Also, Star Wars was the first film, that introduced me to film escapism as it literally transported into another world, or in this another galaxy far, far away.

So, when it was announced that there was going to an Episode 7, 8 and 9 back in September 2012, of course, I was beyond excited. And when it was announced that Episode 7 was going to be released in December 2015, I was just literally counting down the days towards the release date. In fact, I was even more excited to this film than my actual graduation which was in Summer 2015. YES, that’s how much I love Star Wars.

Now, I have finally seen it and it is a pinch me moment that I have actually seen it, because there was no way I ever thought that I would see another Star Wars movie again on the big screen. I did sadly see Attack Of The Clones And Revenge Of The Sith on the big screen back in 2002 and 2005. That was over ten years ago and yet felt like it was just yesterday. Anyway, they weren’t that good and needed major improvement. So, the expectations for The Force Awakens were painfully high.

Is Star Wars: The Force Awakens good? No.

It’s perfect. (Got you, haha)

Yes, this film is beyond perfect. Being a huge Star Wars fan, I was literally smiling from start to finish. I could not believe that I was watching another Star Wars film and that it was a sequel and not a prequel (Thank goodness). It was literally everything I wanted and even more. I never say a film is perfect often, in fact the last time I called a film perfect was The Dark Knight back in 2008.

I am not going to go in depth within the plot, because JJ Abrams has tried his best not to reveal literally anything in the trailers. All I will say is that it revolves around Finn (John Boyega), who was a Storm Trooper for The New Order and doesn’t want to be one anymore, teams with Rey (Daisey Ridley) to things. That is all I will say as I want to respect the filmmakers and the fans for the love of secrecy and surprise.

Yes, I hate it when people speculate and theorise and then tell the public about it. Why not be surprised and enjoy the film rather than guess? It defeats the purpose of the enjoyment of the cinema experience.

So, let me start by saying that JJ Abrams was perfect as the director. He reinvented the Star Trek films by making it fast paced and exciting. And he was not a fan of the Star Trek TV shows or films and yet delivered. He has revealed that he has been a huge Star Wars fan since it first came out since 1977 and you can just tell it from this film. He is a fan directing a Star Wars film and he shows his love for the franchise by going back to the original routes.

By that, I mean, great characters, no exposition boring dialogue, terrific long wide shots, long takes and the film is really funny. There is a lot of humour involved especially from the new droid BB-8, who I thought was awesome. You’ll understand when you see the film.

As for the all of the actors, they were all fantastic. It was just great to see Han Solo and Chewbacca teaming up with Finn and Rey. When Han Solo said “Chewie, we’re home” in the second trailer, I literally cried because I was that happy.

John Boyega was awesome as Finn and has such terrific chemistry with Daisey Ridley and even Oscar Isaac who portrays as Poe Dameron. They meet and instantly have great chemistry, something that the prequels could not do in three movies.

And as for the villain Kylo Ren portrayed by Adam Driver. Erm..yeah…hands down one of the best villains ever. And I truly mean ever on screen or just in general. He was menacing, he was evil and he was terrifying. You get why he was evil which makes it even more brilliant.

I can’t rave this film enough, Star Wars is part of our culture, that is how important these films are.

Overall, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a film for which I waited for over three years was worth the wait. A film, that I cannot wait to see explore even more in the next sequels. Go see it.

5/5

NaNoWriMo tomorrow

Today is Halloween, which means that’s it November tomorrow. Which also means it is the start of NaNoWriMo.

I have been working on few ideas for my novel that I am willing to start writing tomorrow. It is  a science fiction and it’s a space opera in a sense. Like novels like Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy which is more comedic than science fiction. My story is more drama than science fiction but has enormous elements of science fiction.

I have explained why I am doing this. Well, it’s mainly about expressing my love for creative writing and science fiction. I want to try aim for fifty thousand words minimum, despite being the limit for NaNoWriMo. I feel like that science fiction has a wide range of imagination and requires a lot of detailed information.

I want to have the novel to have an immersing experience with the reader. Hence why I want to write science fiction. The novel will contain characters with real life human emotional elements which will make it relatable. But it’ll also have a immersing idea that’ll help escape from the real world and be sucked in the world of the novel.

I start tomorrow and I hope to blog my journey as NaNoWriMo continues on.

Thank you and wish me luck.

Participating in NaNoWriMo 2015

I have decided to take part in NaNoWriMo of this year. Well in November which is just days away from now. The reason I wanted to take part in NaNoWriMo is that I have always had a passion for creative writing ever since I was seven years old.

I remember writing my first short story when I was seven and it was about a bear trying to kill people who lived in the woods. Safe to say that it was a combination of Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and The Three Bears, but I loved doing it.

I never fully stopped writing stories when I was growing up. I had close to no friends and a wild imagination, so I figured what the hell. I did try to publish a novel but it didn’t go as planned. So, I decided to take another shot. The reason why the first time it didn’t go well is because I felt that it wasn’t too imaginative enough. It was a comedy which was based around social reality and therefore people weren’t fans. So I decided to take it a big step.

Now, ever since I was a kid, I was a huge fan of Star Wars, and YES I AM FREAKING PUMPED FOR THE FORCE AWAKENS in December.

The reason I bring up Star Wars, because it was the first film I had ever watched where I had experienced escapism from the real world. I loved the film because it transported me into a different world and I never forget my first time watching this incredible film. So, I had decided to write stories which help escape the world around you and help you immerse within the world that is created whether it is on screen with films or with text with novels.  So here comes the novel that I hope to start writing with NaNoWriMo 2015.

VOYAGE 2

This is the official cover for my upcoming novel which I will start writing in November. It is called VOYAGE and I think you can tell that it is a space novel and a science fiction as well.

I grew up with science fiction (Star Wars, Back To The Future, Terminator 1 and 2, The Matrix, Inception etc). and this seems perfect for me to start crafting my skills as a writer. So, far, I can’t reveal too much yet, as I want to have many surprises for you. Well, if you read it. (I hope so).

I will give a very brief synopsis of the book.

SYNOPSIS – A group of astronauts travel to the cosmos to discover more beyond their reach.

That is all I will say for now, but please follow my blog and my journey and you will experience more on the way.

Thank you and wish me luck.
